The library currently holds approximately 32,000 books and 97 journals that are regularly received either by subscription or exchange..

The collection is housed in premises that provide facilities for students to study. This includes 3 large classrooms, one lecture theatre (capable of seating 200 students) and 2 seminar rooms..

World class, state of the art library software is being used to ensure cataloguing and all other library functions meet international standards.  This includes a user-friendly online catalogue (OPAC) that allows all students, wherever they are, to access the library catalogue, conduct searches and make requests for loans.  This facility is regarded as a vital tool for an effective for all students including distance education programme.

Library has subscribed to a state of the art electronic journals through ProQuest Religion and Education databases, which provide over 400 full text academic journals, with an emphasis on educational journals, to an registered student free of charge.  The library also provides free access to the growing JSTOR online collection, which currently provides students with free access to over 600 journals covering a wide range of disciplines, with special attention to the African context, as well as more recently acquired a subscription to ALUKA on-line journals.  In addition, other electronic journals and resources are being added to the available library resources, some free and others available on a pay by use basis.  Online educational resources being added for student access, mostly free, include:

  • African Journal for Transformational scholarship – free online.
  • The Australian Educational Researcher – free online
  • A large database of conference papers provided free online by the Australian Association for Research in Education.
  • Australian Council for Educational Research – some free articles online, others available by paying a fee for each article.
  • Free online access to the exclusive library of papers and cutting edge research documents on mathematics and science teaching and curriculum, together with interactive learning resources, for both primary and secondary schooling, from the prestigious Freudenthal Institute at the University of Utrecht, in the Netherlands, in collaboration with FI – US at the University of Colorado at Boulder, USA.
  • Springer Online via Inasp/Peri

These resources will allow students to access the finest research materials from any internet accessible location, thus providing the capabilities for creative and informed original scholarship

c) Objectives of the library

The general objective of the library is to help fulfill the purpose of the University: to glorify God and build the church and the community at large through high quality programs of training and research.  In order to meet this, the library aims to:

  • Provide materials necessary for the training programs in the University.
  • Facilitate quick access to information through the provision of efficient retrieval tools.
  • Train users on how to utilize the library to the maximum.
  • Provide a conducive place for study to the students, lecturers and other permitted users.
